Rabies Vaccination

Question
I have a pit bull that cannot be vaccinated because of being overly protective and traumatized on the last vaccination. We got him in a pin and he cannot get out and nothing can get in. Do we have to get him vaccinated?

Answer
Yes you do. The law is the law. There is no way to keep a dog forever in a pen. He has to be out now and then. And bats can get in, raccoons can climb on them, skunks can get in a eat the dog food- all of the carrying rabies all of the time.

If your pit bull is that aggressive (overly protective) he is a lawsuit waiting to happen. You probably already know this. If he bites anything at all, man, woman, child, dog, cat, anything, and isn't vaccinated, there is no grace period for him. There is no 10 day quarantine to see if he is ok and not rabid. They will euthanize him immediately and send his head off to the lab.

So yes, I think you can see why you have to get him vaccinated. Rabies vaccinations do not hurt. I have given thousands of dogs vaccinations. He was traumatized because he must be out of control himself. So he needs to be trained in obedience and probably neutered too. That will help some. Then a vet visit will not be an issue for him.

Now you have the facts Benjamin.
