Chihuahua Swallowing

Question

Micky
I have a 2 year old chihuahua. Today her started swallowing funny. Like he's struggling to swallow. He seems to do it a little when he's eating and drinking. But more when he is just sitting around the house. Could this be allergies? I know about the collapsed trachea, and if he has to be on a leash we use a harness.

Answer
Hi Cindy - Thanks for the photo of your little chi!
I am wondering if it is allergies?  You mentioned he does this all times and not just during feeding.

I would think a VET visit is in order for this little chi... We can try a few options... But, you still may want to see your vet.
Just to make sure there are no problems with his teeth.  Sometimes a bad tooth can make them swallow odd.

Get some Bene Bac - this is a probiotic paste or gel... You can find this in just about any pet store..  This is good for his health and will fight any yeast that is in the oral cavity or belly.

Give some Benadryl - just try 1mg for every pound:  Example - 5 pound dog is 5mg of Benadryl
Just do this 1 or 2 x per day.  Please see your vet if needed.

Last, NuVet Plus - get the powder form of this Immune System Fighter... This will help with allergies and healing.
It is a blaster to help him get better and stay healthy.
