Distemper and Bordatella

Question
I work for a dog kennel. We require current vaccinations. Is it legal for us to sell Distemper and Bordatella vaccine kits to our consumer and witness them administering it to their pets? Tractor Supply and Dr.'s Foster and Smith both sell these kits in my state (Tennessee). Thanks in advance.

Answer
I live in California and according to California law it is illegal for anyone other than a veterinarian to administer vaccinations for profit without a license.

What that means is if a client wants to vaccinate their own pets that is legal, but I don't think it is legal for you to sell them. However, the law might be different in Tennessee. You need to call your local veterinary board and ask them. They will know.

Another factor you need to be aware of is that many of these places do NOT keep their vaccines cold until they get them and some not even then. That renders them essentially nothing more than water.

So especially with these two diseases, be very careful. Vet hospitals have their vaccines shipped overnight on ice so they are always cold and viable.
