QuestionMy poodle mix Shelby is 10 years old. Today she was acting fine until about 5 pm she started shaking uncontrollably and was unable to stand. This episode lasted for about 3 minutes. After, she acted like nothing had happened. During the episode, she did not show any other signs of a seizure (peeing, spasms, "running in place," drooling, etc.) Could this still be a small seizure or something else?
AnswerIt still sounds like a small seizure. They don't always have all the signs of grand mal seizures. Some dogs have petite mal seizures.
But any time a 10 yr old dog has one out of the blue it is time to head to the vets. This is not normal for a dog this age. If this was the first one ever it may not be a big issue but it does mean something.
She needs a check up. The vet can determine if this is a regular epileptic seizure or something neurological. They will probably run some tests too.
But she needs to be seen.
