Cat with Pseudomonas bacteria

Question
I have a 8 year old DSH cat that has suffered for over a year with a pseudomonas bacteria infection. My vet has just about given up on him. He has been on numerous antibiotic's, but so far nothing has worked. I have heard that iodine may be helpfull in treating this? Also Colloidal silver? My vet doesn't seem to know anything about either one. If you know about them could you advise as to where I could get some info on them, and if you think they may be helpful.
My poor boy is just so congested that I will do anything possible to get him some help. I also have him a a low dose of prednisone and a antihisamine. I really don't like this long term use of all these antibiotic's. Otherwise he is a healthy cat.
Thanks Jean

Answer
Jean,
I don't really know much about treating this with iodine or silver. Has he been given the routine tests for leukemia, FIV, etc to assess his immune system?

You say he is congested- so is this in his lungs? Maybe he has a fungal infection that is exacerbating this bacterial one. Has he been checked for those?

My advice would be for you to seek out a holistic vet or call a nearby veterinary teaching hospital where ever you live. Some of them welcome hard cases like this a learning cases for their vets.

There is a holistic vet in here but she only seems to push her own agenda when you ask a question, but it is worth a try. Just copy and paste your question into the ask the vet box for her. She is the only female vet in here.

I hope you find some relief for him. I wish you well. Please let me know if you do find out something.
