funding for my pitbulls biopsy

Question
I found a pit bull approximately two years ago.  After not being able to find
her previous owner or a new home for her, I decided to keep her.  So I
took her to the vet for all shots and to get her fixed and have continued
regular vet visits as needed.
Here's the problem, she has a growth on her chest which must be
removed and lab tested. I am a Calif. Community College teacher who
has lost hours due to budget cuts. Therefore, my monthly income has
been reduced to a third.  So, I'm wondering if you can recommend an
organization in or near the Coachella Valley (specifically Palm Desert) that
might help financially so I can have the procedure done. Thank you for
your time.

Answer
I'm sorry but you are asking in the wrong place. I live in Northern California and work at a community college as well, so I know all about the budget cuts. I have no way to know what is available in your area. The only way I would know is by searching the internet, which you can do just as well since you live down there.

You need to do a search for this on google or some search engine. Most likely you will have a hard time finding someone that will fund this for you. This is probably going to be considered elective surgery by some. You can contact your local humane societies, animal rescue groups and the like, and you might find someone to help you. Don't give up!

I would try and get some pet insurance if I were you as they cover a huge amount of costs on surgeries etc. Most of the time it can get gotten regardless of prior conditions. There is also Care Credit, which many hospitals carry. Ask your vet office what they can recommend.

I know that vet care is expensive, but honestly, the higher prices are driven not by costs of procedures or complexity, but by the vets need to pay his associates and his rent. So find a smaller hospital without all the latest and greatest and you will probably find a more caring vet willing to work with his hands, not just machines and tests.

Just my thoughts on that. Good luck in your search.
