Question
My 3 year old male english redtick hounds penis has swelled up not where it comes out but towards back besides the swelling he seems fine. What is wrong with him and what can i do to help him? I gave him a shot of penicillan today thinking it may be an infection.

         Thanks

Answer
Well he is a young dog and probably not neutered either, so what you're seeing are the bulbous glands in his penis being swollen. This is not uncommon at all, and is very normal in male dogs.

Sometimes they just get that way for no reason (that we can see).
Here is an article that you can read on it:

PLEASE do not give your dog shots of anything unless you know what is going on. All you do when you do that is create "superbugs" that will defy treatment later with antibiotics later on.

Self-diagnosing and self-treating your dog is a good way to cause some serious harm to him so please contact your local vet BEFORE you start injecting your dog with things!

Thanks.
