Question
My 6 year old lab mix has a white colored lump on one of her front paws. She's always licking it so it seems to me like it bothers her. She is an indoor dog and is only outside to use the bathroom. What could this be? Is it serious? What can i do to get rid of it? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Charleen!  I would have your veterinarian check out the lump.  It doesn't sound like it is an actual tumor, as licking is a sign of an allergy or itchiness.  An actual tumor would cause no itching...so I wouldn't worry about that.
Is the lump light tan, or actually white?  A tick, when filled with blood, will appear as light tan.  If it is, take a tweezers and simply pull it out.  If it is actually completely white in color, it may be a skin tag or a little "wart" that can be cauterized off by your veterinarian.
I hope this helps!
