Siberian Husky w/Lick Granuloma condition

Question
My 11year old husky, Tosha was diagnoses with Lick Granuloma in the summer of 2008, in which her vet thinks was triggered by nerves. The vet had Tosha on several treatments of strong antibiotics which of course worked great; fully healed and then the cycle starts all over again.  I was told my a friend that Tea Tree Oil is great for animals with different ailments/sores.  Could I use this oil and if so how would you recommend my doing so?

Thank you.

Answer
Yes, Tea Tree oil is an excellent anti-bacterial oil.  It is one of the oils that we use in Critter Oil and is very safe. You can use it straight on the Granuloma, or mix it into a base of udder cream or bag balm and apply it. Also, I would suggest taking some Vicks Vapo Rub, putting it on your hands and petting it onto the hair surrounding the Granuloma. When Tosha goes to chew, she will get a nose full of Vicks vapors and not want to go there. This will often break the habit of licking and chewing  (like nail biting in people) that creates the Granuloma.

Another thing to look at is what you are feeding. Granulomas and also foot licking and chewing are often related to dogs with beef sensitivity and a sensitivity to chemical toxins. Remove all beef and beef flavored items, and also any chemicals (heartworm meds and other ingestible toxins, spot on the back flea prevention, etc.).

There is a lot to tell, but try these first then call me if you have any more questions. You can find my phone number and other information on www.critteroil.com.

Take care, and thanks for the question.
