QUESTION: hi my rottie is 4 years old in jan and for the last 6 months been having fits the vet put him on EPIPHEN 60mg 6 a day but his fits went to cluster after a while and they give me more meds called BROMIDE 325MG and he as 6 of them day with the others but he his keeping awake all night wanting to go out side hes not him self at all and i have noticed his head as changed shape but the vet said it looked like he had lost some musscle the ones he uses for chewing but keep me up all night is driving me mad i have no sleep but feel so sorry for him just wondering if it was the bromide thats keeping him wanting to go out all the time as he was not like this before any help or information would be great

ANSWER: Hi Andy - Sounds like this Rottie is not under control by your vet.  PLEASE look for a second opinion on this.  MOST vets do understand when you seek another opinion on a HARD case like this.
Also, you may want to see if anyone does doggie massage in the area.  This can be very helpful - along with a good Vet.
The bromide only extends the length of the other drugs -  Your dog's blood leves must be OUT of control and he needs better help-
SEEK another Vet - ASAP

Answer
The drug is a form of Phenobarbital for seizures.  You should not have to give this more than 2-3 x per day.  If he can't sleep could it be that he has a UTI ?? ( urinary infection)?
Also, the meds should make him sleepy.  So, now I am wondering if he just has a good old urinary infection?  Frequent urination.

Sorry he is having such a bad time.
Talk to the vet about this idea of UTI
