Husband being transferred

Question
Hi my name is jody I live in Alberta, Canada with 2 kids, 2 boxers and a cat.
My husband has a chance to be transferred internationally.  We have been
given 4 location choices, dubai, oman, saudi and south america (not sure of
exact country).  I am wondering if any of these places require the pets to be
quarantined?  If so, for how long?
After some researching I have discovered that Saudi is not the most pet
friendly place... any info on the life of a pet in the above locations would be
appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jody,

Thank you for your inquiry.  It sounds like you've got quite a full house!  You are correct that generally speaking, the Middle Eastern countries are not very welcoming to pets.  One of our past customers wrote back this regarding living with pets in the UAE:

"One piece of advice:  it is not a good place to have pets here. We got threatened to have the police come to remove our dogs 2 days after behind in our compound and we had to find another compound accepting dogs, which can be challenging in a country where there is a shortage of houses. Nevertheless, we are now settled in a nice compound with a grass area (luxury!!).
We didn't know before coming here that the Muslim religion does not tolerate dogs as they are considered uncleaned because of the way the clean themselves. Locals especially kids are not used to seeing dogs and just want to tease and throw things at them... We live in a compound with westerners so they are OK here."

However, we still move quite a few people to the Middle East and they seem to enjoy living there -- obviously not everyone in the Middle East dislikes dogs.

South America seems to be much less regulated when it comes to pets and typically they do not pay much attention to pets whatsoever.  So you might feel more comfortable there.  It can be rather difficult to ship pets to South America, especially during the summer, due to the large amounts of luggage people send down there-- the airlines tend to bump live animals off the flights.  So I would advise against trying to move there in the summer.

Happy Travels!
