Question
I am currently living in Phuket, Thailand and next January time I would like to move back to the uk.  I would like to take my 3 cats with me and I understand that they will have to spend 6 months in quarantine.  How do I transport my cats from Phuket to Manchester.  I may have to use London instead, which is the best airline? and if I use British Airways then they fly from Bangkok, is there a way then to fly them to Bangkok from Phuket???

Thankyou
Michelle

Answer
This is a VERY complicated move with MANY options.
All in all should not be toooo difficult!
First of all.  Go to page 4 of my www.  Click on DEFRA.  You need to
get ALL your basic info from them.  There should be NO need for
quarantine in UK if you follow the guidelines.
Pets going directly to UK must go only as cargo.  Much more expensive.
And, they must travel on a so called approved airline to meet the
pet passport requirements.  Brit Air meets these requirements.  I do
not know about Thai air.  Ask them.
Thai has a non-stop flight to London from BKK.  Thai also has a flight
from Phuket to BKK.  Do NOT try other airlines from Phuket as the
transfers in BKK would be too complicated.
Now then.  You might consider taking Lufthansa, KLM or Air France from
BKK to the european continent.  Then, the cats could go with you as
excess baggage.  MUCH cheaper.  Then, there is a process for you to
take them on to UK, sometimes directly to Manchester.  You would need
to secure the pet passport in europe and do some other paperwork.
Thai from BKK direct to London probably would be cheaper than BA,
but again, I do not know if they are approved!!
This is about all I can help with at this time.  After all, I am in
USA and you will be bypassing USA
Avoid 3rd party shippers as they will only add considerably to your
total costs.  You can do this all yourself.
Please keep in touch and I will offer advice best I can
