Taking dog to italy?

25 10:07:27

Question
I am moving to Italy in a year to be with my husband's family and I can't bare to leave my little lhasa apso. He is about ten and in perfect health. I was wondering if he has to be in quarantine if I take him to Italy? I am not sure if I could bare to do that for to long, but I would hate to leave him. Also what are the requirements to take a dog into Italy? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jackie

Answer
Dear Jackie
I assume you are in USA.  Is this correct?  Info I provide will be
based upon this assumption.
There is NO quarantine.  Dog needs: microchip.  Rabies vac at least
30 days old and less than 1 yr.  APHIS 7001 international health cert
issued within 10 days of travel and endorsed by usda.  Also, EU form
998  bilingual English - Italian also endorsed by usda.
You might be able to take the dog in the cabin.  Check with airline
passenger reservation people as to taking dog in cabin or as
excess baggage.
Avoid going thru UK as they will require dog to travel only as cargo.
Let me know if you need further help
