Travel to Greece with 2 small dogs

Question
We are traveling to Greece with our small dogs this June 2010.  I have read about the microchip and rabies vaccine..I have downloaded a veterinary certificate from the Greek Embassy website.  I read in another email of yours that the USDA had to sign it...how does that happen...after the vet fills out paper work, i send it somewhere?
Also, I read in the embassy literature that the rabies vaccine test a month later has to be 3 months old?   Im running out of time if that is the case.
Anything else I need to know about getting into Greece with the dog?  FOr instance...once Im thru an initial approved checkpoint..can I travel freely with our dogs throughout Greece? Thank you so very much for your help.
Halena

Answer
Dear Halena
What you need for Greece is:  microchip   rabies vac at least 30 days old and less than one yr
APHIS 7001 international health cert issued within 10 days of travel and endorsed by usda
Also, EU form 998  English-Greek  which records rabies and microchip info, and also endorsed by
usda.    There is NO blood, or other test required for travel from USA to the EU   So, put that
out of your mind.....
Your vet should know where the usda office is in your state.  He, or you, can send the paperwork
by FedEx or UPS to them, or, you can handcarry.  Be sure your vet is accredited to sign international paperwork.  Not all vets are
Once in Greece, you should be able to travel around Greece with this paperwork.  Would be MUCH
better for you to contact a Greek vet and get the EU pet passport, then you can travel all over
EU.  Probably could anyway, as it is doubtful you will ever be asked to show paperwork, but why
take chances?  You will need to be very careful about taking dogs to Turkey as they are NOT
EU member.  Check with vets in Greece about this.
Hope this helps.  Let me know
