QuestionDear Sir/Madam
I have been living in the UK for nearly 10 years. I will soon move back to Italy. A few years ago, I adopted a stray cat. Unfortunately, he has the feline version of HIV. The vet said he can still live many years. I would like to take my cat back to Italy with me.
I have read that in order to take a cat abroad, I need to get him a pet passport. And in order to get a passport, my cat needs to do a blood test. As I said, I know my cat has HIV, and that is the reason I really want to take him with me (I cannot leave him here, nobody would take him). Do you know if I am still allowed to take my cat with me, even if he is not healthy? I can obviously take a good care of him in Italy, the vet my parents use for their pets can testify that we will take care of him.
I am desperate.... I cannot consider leaving my cat behind, but I have to move back to Italy to take over our family business. I thank you in advance for any help you can provide me with!!!!
AnswerDear Gloria
This is a medical situation, and I am not qualified to get into this
If the cat is in UK going to another EU country, I do not think he
needs blood tests. You need to find this out from your own vet in UK
Check with DEFRA. There is a link to them from p.4 of my website
Sorry I can not be of more help. Good luck
