Question
Hi. I live in Norway, and I am planning to go to USA summer 2011. Can I bring my 13 year old papillon with me? What do I need to do to be sure that she will be allowed to enter USA and have no problem in the immigration?

Answer
Hi, Hanne,

You may bering your papillon with you into the USA.  She may be imported free of duty as she is your pet (you are not planning on reselling her).  She will need to be examined for health at first port of entry.  She will need proof of vaccination against rabies, and that vaccine must be at least 30 days prior to entry.  There is not a mandated quarrentine program for dogs with proper rabies vaccine.

The publication number is 0000-0509 and it can be downloaded from the Travel section of the CBP website.

Good luck,
