Question

new growth!
I have a 120g saltwater tank.  I've recently added some new live rock, as well as an anenome (Pink tip haitan), and upgraded my lighting to 130w minifluorescent.    My question is thus..

I've noticed new growth on one of my older (few months old) live rocks.  Unsure if it is "good" or "bad" growth, and hoping for some insight.  Thank you for any help!

Answer
Hello Gerry,

The 'new growth' looks like sponge.  This is usually a good indication that your system is doing well.  It grows on the bottom and in the shade, as it doesnt need light for growth..  To get rid of it, (if you dont like it), just pull the rock out of the water and scrub it off.  it should come off easily..

But, other then it looking like, umm, sponge, it is a good thing, and i leave mine alone...

good luck,

Bill
