Question
I have a canister filter that uses eheime 2026 filter pad and have no clue how to put in the filter pads. Do I use only one pad or does each tray need one? where do I put the media and what kind works best for nitrates since mine are high and cant seem to lower them even though nitrites dont even register.please help. thanks dena

Answer
Hello,

Try performing a 5% water change for the next week.  Do this twice in the first week and once in the second week.

I would place a filter in each tray. They do sell nitrate reducing pads but in all honestly I do not know how effective they are.  You will need a porous media ( it is usually white and shaped like a barrel) so the beneficial bacteria can build up on the surface area. I would place this media in the middle of canister. Place the carbon on the bottom.  I like to place a bit of carbon on top as well.

Good luck
Todd
