Question
can u put a black floricent light bulb in a sea salt aquarium? yes or no? if no where could i find cheap sea salt aquirum light bulbs?

Answer
Hi Amber,
You can, but the spectrum of light emitted by black light is harmful to our aquatic pets and can cause changes in behaviors(feeding, sleeping, etc). I have found that Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Walmart and Meijer stores all carry GE, or other brand, lighting bulbs that will suffice for most aquarium needs. 6,500 kelvin to 15,000 kelvin grow light bulbs, actinic blues, full spectrum sun bulbs etc... and all very affordably. I spend around $10.00 a bulb for the 6 footers and less for the 4 and 3 footers. I have over 3,000 gallons of saltwater aquariums in my home and use no expensive lighting, even in my 11 year old, 450 gallon reef.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
