Live rock Curing

Question
I have had a freshwater aquarium all my life, but I want to start something new so I'm going into a marine aquarium.  I have read up on what to do for protein skimmers and water flow, but I'm still a bit unclear on the process of curing live rock. Can you just give me a brief overview on how to do it please?

Answer
Hi Thomas,

I really require more information before answering.

About the rock you intend to buy:

Is it wild rock or store-bought?

Is it in water or dry?

Is it advertised as "live" rock?

If it's advertised as "live rock", in a running fish tank in a pet store or person's home...it's cured.  No need to do anything else, but to put it straight into the tank.  If you buy it from a live rock seller on Ebay, then it will require some curing, as those have dried somewhat before reaching you and there will be some things which will rot off of them because of transportation.

Please send the information requested so I can give you an expert answer.

Thanks,
Renee
