Blue Sri Lanka Starfish

During a water change tonight I notice my starfish was missing a leg and had a host attached to it.  It was brownish in color and eating away on the starfish, although the star was still alive.  Of course, we immediately removed both from the tank.  What do you recommend.  Please advise.  Thank you.

off the top of my head i cannot think of what the parasite may be but what i do know is that you need to put your star into a quarantine tank immediately and treat it with a invert safe parasite treatment. if the parasite is removed the star will be fine as they lose limbs often in the wild and recover quickly. often times the detached limb will grow a whole new star.
