salt in saltwater tank

Question
I already have water in my tank what is the best way to add my salt it is a 30 gallon tank?

Answer
hello nick.

it is ok to add salt to water in a new tank if there isnt any fish or critters in the tank.

I would estimate how much salt you need, and then add about 75% of that amount, then test the water for salinity, and then add the salt cup at a time, or less, till you get close.

I would shoot for about 1.020 WHILE YOU ARE STILL ADDING.  salt will keep on dissolving after you add and mix the water. so it is better to be on the low side, and then wait till it dissolves completely then test again.

good luck
