Question
I recently purchased a mushroom and over the days ive been watching it and i dont think its doing to well. Its not as big as it was when i got it and the babies that were on the side of the rock, are now gone. Also it constantly is giving off this slimy substance from the middle of it. What is going on?

Answer
Hello Nichole,

Mushrooms are typically very hardy and resilient... but, they are not indestructible..

Please let me know what your water conditions are,

1.  salinity
2.  pH
3.  Nitrates
4.  Ammonia

Also, please tell me a bit about your aquarium... what size, what type of filtration, what type of lighting, what type of power heads, etc...

also, let me know how old your system has been setup, and what other tank mates/critters you have...

it is common for mushrooms to shrivel from time to time, they get moody... it is also kinda normal for the mushrooms and other critters that have only one orafice to expel waste from the same opening that they take food stuff in, but, the waste is not usually 'slimey'

usually the waste is stringy, and dark/black(ish)

But typically, like stated above, mushrooms are resilient.. if they are stressing now, it maybe only a matter of time or fixing a few things and they will come right back..

Most folks end up regretting mushrooms as they will grow everywhere, but i kinda like them like that.. and havent had a problem myself with overpopulation of anything yet... hehehe

good luck and please keep me posted...

you might want to log onto my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com  and introduce yourself, as we have many members that might have more information then me... and you will get to discuss this and other things with me and them in a much easier format that this website..

good luck and hope to hear from you soon
