keeping preditory fish with feeders

Question
Hi I am wondering if it is possible to setup a saltwater tank divided in two with mesh (or something similar), breeding feeder fish and/or small inverts on the bottom part and keeping a couple of predatory fish on the top part, letting the predatory fish hunt for them self as the feeders swim up through the mesh. I have been doing a lot of research on this but have not been able to find anyone who has done it. is it possible? what would be the main problems to making it work?

Answer
Micheal,

this is a great question...Im sure it is possible... I have seen some brine shrimp 'factories' that are kind of like this...

Im thinking it might be more practical side by side instead of top and bottom as you wont be able to clean the bottom without taking the screen off and letting your aggressive fish at your feeder fish...

also i am not sure if the aggressive fish wont try to tear apart the mesh, or hurt themselves trying...

You might want to log onto my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com and reaching out to JUST_GREG as he and his wife have several tanks full of aggressive species... they are the local tough fish gang.. hehehehe

anyways, I hope you keep me posted, and maybe you can join us at www.thelittleocean.com and post some pics of what you end up with...

good luck,

bill
