Something is killing my snails too

Question
I just read an email dated 11/9/03 regarding something killing his snails and hermit crabs almost instantly.  I am having the same problem.  About six weeks ago, I treated for ich with metronidazole then 1 week later with kick-ich.  My fish died within 4 hours of dosing the kick-ich.  All inverts. lived and were placed in another tank.  I restarted my main tank keeping only my filter media and live rock.  All substrate was changed.  Now fish are doing great, all water parameters check out fine, but snails and crabs die almost instantly upon introduction. I've done several major water changes and try again with 2 snails at a time.  They always die within 1 hour. I aclimate these the same as I would any new arrival.  Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time,
Michelle

Answer
Michelle,
There has to be some medication or something in the rock or media still.  Do you use carbon in your filter?  This will remove most medications.  If the medication is copper based then I'd recommend using Kent Marine's Toxic Metal Sponge in the filter to remove it.

Best of luck with your tank!
