help setting up salt water fish tank

Question
I bought a salt water fish tank and did exactly what the guy at the fish store told me to but yet something is wrong with the salinity in the tank. Every time I checked it it gave me a different reading. I have tried to adjust the salinity in the water too by taking water out when it read to high and replacing it with new water and when it read too low I just added a little more of the salt but the different readings are confusing me and I don't know what to do. I have been looking online trying to find someone that could actually come out to my house and help me set it up but I cant find anyone. Do you know places in Southern California that I could possible call and see if they could come out and help me?

Answer
Hello Candace.

As for your salinity... what salinity do you have and what are you trying to get..

the goal should be 1.026   but if you are close, and within 2-4  thousandths, then i wouldnt be too concerned...  that could the be difference of just before 'top off' or just after... depending on the size of your tank...

you want to minimize the 'spread' and using an 'auto top off' might help.

btw, I am in so cal also, and you can find me on my forum at

www.thelittleocean.com

(actually, i am dealing with a flood in my condo, so I am not online as much as my place is tore up pretty bad)

anyways, good luck and please let ali know i sent you and about Allexperts.com

thanks
