Seahorse and Shrimp act sick after water change

Question
QUESTION: I just recently decided to have a professional clean and maintain my tank.  He did a great job and seemed very knowledgeable. He maintains the tanks for most of the restaurants in the area.  However, ever since he left, my shrimp and my seahorse seem almost lethargic.  It has been 5 days since the tank cleaning.  Seahorse ate fine up until today when I couldn't get him to eat any Mysis shrimp which he usually goes crazy for.  Any suggestions?

ANSWER: What kind of cleaning did he do?

You are never ever supposed to do a full tank clean. The most cleaning you ever do is take out a bit of water and add new water.

If he actually took things out of the tank, or scrubbed anything down with a cloth you should ask for your money back, because he just uncycled your tank.

QUESTION: He cleaned the filters, removed some algae from the rock and only did about a 25 percent water change adding some RO water.  I added a little Melafix to the water last night and my seahorse ate pretty good later on.  The shrimp seem to be a little more active now too.  Maybe we just upset their water world too much at one time.  I think they will be okay.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
What filters?

You shouldn't need any filters on a SW tank. The rock does it all.

Anyways, glad things worked out.

In the future, try not to do more than 10% water change at a time, and do not clean anything at the same time you do a water change. Space everything out.
