Question
Hi,
Is it possible and how could it be done if I wanted to transport a baby shark, ( black tip or bonnet or hammerhead ) from Sarasota Fl to NYC? I have a 10 ft x 4ft x 3ft high tank and can get 1 or 2 of these sharks in late March early Apl but am not sure about transporting them safely?

Frank

Answer
Frank,   That is number one illegal to transport that fish for a tank. Number two I am so sorry to say that tank is WAY too small for them it WILL die and we will never give you advice that is detrimental to an animal. If you want to put a shark in your tank there are some very beautiful sharks like the Epaulette's, marbled, cat's. I am going to send you a site that may help you get a beautiful shark for your tank. I have kept BIG WATER salt tanks for year's trust me. I am also working on my degree in marine biology. Your tank would definitely take a couple Epaulette's. I know it is very kool to go natural....I live right by the ocean and the bay so I have 125 with natural species. It's just that sharks need lots of room. For example I had a kiddo asking me why his angel fish kept dying in his 30 gallon salt tank. Tank too small she just gave up. They need that swim space. Especially these sharks your asking about they are some of the breeds that needs to have an almost constant flow of oxygen through their gill's. Transport for these guy's is also a process nothing you could put in a rubbermaid with a bubbler system. I am so sorry. If you have any other question's please ask me. Tina
