Question

ID ?
Hi T.J.; I have a 120 gallon saltwater tank for 3 years now - It contains a mix of soft coral, live rock and fish. Over the summer I started getting little groups of light reddish brown  "anemone"  like growth through the tank on the rocks. I have not added any thing new into the tank for over 9 months. Can you help me  1. ID it, 2. how to control it and 3. What may have caused it.? MANY THANKS in ADVANCE for your help.

Answer
Hey Eileen

I cant tell in the pic, but do they all have individual heads/polyps? if they do, its likely a coral like zoas, which are harmless and good to have

if theyre not individual heads, its probably a pest anemone like aiptasia. the best way to remove aiptasia is to buy a product that you directly squirt at them, like Joes Juice or aptasia-x.

please send me a follow up with if its many heads or one, and we can figure out what it is!
