Question
Scott, I am brand new to saltwater aquaria.  I am in the research phase and do not currently own a tank.  I have read that a newcomer should start small and "grow into" a larger tank, but I would like to avoid the cost of buying new tanks/equipment/fish, etc.  Do you think it's OK to start out with my dream tank (several hundred gallons)?  Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Mike,
If you feel that you are interested in the hobby enough to go large right off the bat, I say go for it.  The tank will be a lot more stable and you won't run into that "I don't have enough room for the fish I want" problem that most novice hobbiests encounter with smaller aquariums.

Best of luck with your new hobby!

Scott Johnson
