Question
Thanks! What about filter type? Does it have to be a canister type filter? I 'm pretty sure it requires special filter media right? Thanks again, Elkim

-----Question-----
Hello
I was just wondering what I would need to get started with a small saltwater tank? It is 26 gallons. Can I use artificail decorations? Such as regular white gravel and fake corals? What do I need for a filter? Any other tips would be great. Thank You.

Hi there, You can definitely use fake corals and white gravel, I prefer the fine white gravel. As long as the decorations are bought in aquarium/pet stores so you know they are safe for use in aquariums. You will need to make up the water your local fish store can provide you with the salt which should tell you how much salt/water to add. You will need a hydrometer or refractometer to test the salinity. The tank will need some live rock (if no live rock you will need to feed the tank as if there were fish in there) and allow it to sit for 4-6 weeks. Then test the water for ammonia

Answer
Hi there, I use a spray bar with a power head on most of my tanks, we also have one tank with a hang on filter. I know of people who use cannister filters and internal filters, it just depends what you prefer. The filter media I use is noodles with a purigen bag and filter wool over it. I use the same noodles that I have in the filter on my freshwater tank. Hope this helps
