Question
Hi,
well i am sorry i couldnt write to you soon...i got caught up in buying tanks and fish for my friends. I am really sorry to hear about your chicks, Jade and Chickadee. I really have no idea on growing birds except the times when i took care of an injured parrot and a mynah birdling.
Maybe they are dying due to a disease called Ranikhet disease...i have heard farmer say that the disease can wipe out a whole farm if not treated immediataitely. Or maybe you can check whether some person is strangling the birds to death. I am so sorry.
Coming back...the thugs were actually tramps who stole into houses to steal. They were caught and handed over to the police. They were sentenced to 6 months jail.
I have decided what dog to buy finally. A mongrel. I call it mongrels and not cross breeds because, cross breeds are like  labrador x spaniel or pom x lhasa..but indian mongrels cannot be like that...lab x spaniel x german shepherd x shih tzu x lhasa etc. So thats what i call a mongrel. You cannot call it a cross. it is more of a mixed breed. I am adopting it from a shelter.
Fish.....my oscars have got severe white spots so i am very very busy treating them with meds which i got from Kerala. In some aquariums there are sea angels being sold. Is it true that they can also survie in fresh water. Scat, a salt water fish is also being sold. Though i have grown both the varieties they dont survive for more than a week. But in some shops like Pet N Fish i have seen the same angel survive for more than 3 months. Please tell me more about these fish.
.......Srinivas
(did i tell you about my trip to Kerala?)

Answer
(Scroll down for the Sea Angels overview!)
Hi Srinivas! It's to hear from you again!

~Thanks for your sympathy about my dear pet chickens... Well there is good news, since I emailed you about the strange  nightmare, I haven't lost anymore of my chicks at all. I gave my little flock at least a week to insure there aren't any more saddening s and there were none. I have also looked my s over for any signs of disease and they are perfectly healthy birds. Thanks for your suggestion of Ranikhet disease but I am now 100% sure my flock is going to be fine now. I think I know what was the culprit--you see, many weeks ago we laid some grass seed down where it is accessible by them but we covered the seeds with a fine netting like mesh and weighted that down until the grass sprouted. Well, I think somehow even though we made sure they couldn't, somehow got ahold of the grass seed and were poisoned by it, becasue the grass seed was coated with an fungicide. It's so terrible, I was sure we had it protected enough from them but somehow they got some of it. Just to be sure we shoveled all the seed and tossed it completely over the fence--forget it, my pet hens are more important than some grass seed I am trying to sprout. But then again it could have even been something else, we'll never know. I still can't believe it and it is so depressing to think Jade and Chickadee aren't here anymore....

The thugs-
That's great news! I feel they should have been sentenced to a longer time in jail though...Since they are also violent people... Perhaps 6 months is fair enough.. :(

Mongrels-cross breeds-
You're right about you can't call all of them "Crossbreeds" Just sometimes I feel calling a dog mutt is sort of mean and is disrespectful of the animal. I know it's probably silly but I am an animal activist and have very stronge feelings for all creatures. It's okay to call a dog mutt or mongrel, I just prefer not to myself. Anyway, I am so glad you are adopting from a shelter! That is the best way ever to get a dog as you are also saving their life as well!
Let me know what mix you get if you don't mind! ;-)

Fish-
I'm so sorry to hear about your Oscars! I hope they get well soon! That's so bad...i'm really sorry about that! :(

Sea angels* Though I am not an expert at all on saltwater fish I would personally think that sea angels would not be able to survive in freshwater. The species you are thinking of may be of something I am not aware of but there are some species of fish that can go fresh or brackish (semi salty) water. Scats are one of these fish, they need their salinity raised over time. They do well with Monos which are also a brackish fish and prefer being in a small shoal of at least three. Scats prefer a temperature of 77-82 F and a salinity level of about 1.005 to 1.020 SG. They also have voracious appetite, especially for vegetation. Maybe there wasn't something quite right with the water conditions like the salinity level. I don't think Scats would do well in pure saltwater, maybe thats one of the reasons why. I don't know much more about Sea angels but I will research them as soon as I can and I will email more info about them if you don't mind waiting a bit. Perhaps you should ask Pet N fish what is the secret to keeping them alive and well.

~Look for my second email on sea angels soon! I will try my best to find as much info as possible I promise!

As always I am wishing you the very best for your Oscars and all your other fish plus your dog decision! Good luck on everything...Remember feel free to email me back on anymore questions you have!

As always take care and Happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
(You told me just that you got medications from Kerala...But not much else.) ;-)

~I have a Sea Angels brief overview! Just as I promised!~
*Sea Angels*
It seems the most common Sea Angel genus is the Holacanthus group. These Angels are so beautiful and graceful but they require special feeding and carefully selected tankmates. Holacanthus are some of the most durable angelfish species but because of their tendancy to become bullies, they are best kept in large aquariums of 180 gallons or more. They will grow rapidly if fed correctly so don't keep them in anything smaller an 180 for their entire lives. Like other angels, these fish should be fed small frequent meals throughout the day with usually readily accepted chopped fresh and frozen seafoods, brine shrimp, mysid shrimp, and even flake food. Holacanthus must have plant matter in their diet. Foods loaded with Spirulina are excellent along with broccoli as another great source of Vitamin A and C.
It's best to house Holacanthus in large tanks with other combative species but care must always be taken.

Here are some of the most common species of Holacanthus species-
Blue Angelfish*
Queen Angelfish*
Clarion Angelfish*
King or Passer Angelfish*
And the Rock Beauty* If you need info on any of these species, just let me know!

~The keys to sucess with Sea Angels are a varied diet, complete with vegetable matter, and a lot of swimming room. And Remember: Although angelic in appearance, Holacanthus can have a ish Disposition!

I would have provided a longer article but for some reason the email couldn't be sent then.

Will provide more info as soon as I get your reply!

As always take care and happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
