Slimy film on top of the water

Question
I cleaned my tank a week ago and since the water was alittle green with algea bloom I set up my diatom filter and ran for a day and a half now. I thought i would also change out my filter pads before I took down the diatom. I did this with the filter still running( I have a 50 Gal JEBO tank with the filter system on top) I know I heard they suck! But looks good I think. Anyways now there is a thick film of "I dont know what it is"floating across the whole top of the water. Im hoping you can tell me what is is and how to clear it up. Thank you

Answer
It sounds like a protein buildup from you have described. Have you tried taking a net to scoop it out? I have done this with feeder tanks in the past and it seemed to work. I have not had a whole experiance with this particular problem outside of feeder fish tanks in the past so I am not that familar with it, wish I could have been of more help. Happy fish keeping!!
