My Fishs eye turned white kind of like a bubble

Question
QUESTION: My fish's eye turned white their kind of like a bubble, their Koy fishes according to the fish retailer shop, I got them from a night market game and yes, their quite healthy fishes.
I just wanted to know if its okay. I'm not sure if the fish got injured around the eye region, it seems to be white and bubble like, kind of like our skin when it turns white and soft, and it's really maluable(as in it looks like some of it is shedding out) and a inner red ring around the pupil of the eye.
ANSWER: Hey Austin,

I'm sorry to say, your koi are not healthy at all! The koi in question is afflicted by a bacterial infection commonly called eye cloud. A simple anti-bacterial treatment will clear things up. If the eye begins to buldge out, and seem ready to pop out completely, then my initial description is wrong. It's still a bacterial problem, but it's pop eye, not eye cloud and the same bacterial products should fix the issue.

Best wishes, and good luck.

QUESTION: Ah Thanks, Can you recommend any bacterial products for me? Thanks.
ANSWER: Hey again,

If your koi are indoor, consider maradel or jungle products. Jungle works well in smaller tanks, maradel products are awesome in slightly salty tanks. In either case, i recommend a box of aquarium salt too. Aquarium salt is amazingly healthy for freshwater fish, as well as salt water. As always, use everything as directed in the packaging enclosed!

If you have pond fish, consider getting a 5 gallon bucket from a home improvement store. the paint section generally has nice large buckets with a steel carrying handle that are nice and hefty. Clean it out really well, and fill it with tank / pond water, and drop in the sick fish. Treat in the bucket, if you have a pond fish. If you have a small tank, treat the whole tank. It's just easier, and will prevent disease spreading. If you have a huge tank indoors, get a bucket.

Hope this helps out, and if you need specific product names, ask another followup, with exact tank gallonage, decor, plants, water test results, tank mates, etc. and we'll work out a list of things to get that's cheap, and highly effective.

QUESTION: Alright! Thank's a bunch, My Aquarium Tank I think is 5 gallons(not sure, maybe its 12 gallons), The fish has two other koi buddies. (I'm not sure of gender). Their are gravel bedding (one's you can buy from pet shops for fish) a sea shell and few rocks in it, A water filter. The koi themselves are about 4 inches long +/- 1 - 1.5 inch.
It will be hard to just "treat" one since they are fairly large koi and it's hard to stuff a bucket into the tank without nudging one of them or getting two in. Thanks for your time and help.  I can provide more details if needed.

ANSWER: Hey there!

Last reply, i think.

In a 5-10 gallon tank, jungle anti fungal and bacterial tabs and aquarium salt should cure it. If they were in a 20-55, maradel drops would be better. 55+ and i'd say get a bucket.

On a side note, koi can grow to be 3 feet+, so in time, you'll want to get them a pond, or a bigger tank. Best wishes, and good luck!

QUESTION: Thanks again for your time!. I was aware koi could grow up to that size, 3 feet+ is big!. Hopefully over a few years :).

I think Pet Habitat should have them. Thanks again :).
How long would you think would after applying the fungal or salt, would the koi eyes start getting better. It seems rather awful at the moment, whitish, sort of like a major sore eye.

ANSWER: Hey,

I'd say use both; salt and anti fungal tabs. The total cost should be at or under $10 US and will be effective immediately, and will begin to work nearly immediately. Within 4 days you should clearly see improvement, and quite possibly be cured in that time frame.

QUESTION: Just to ask again, I looked up some things that I think fit the use for the treatment,
Will Baktopur treat the bacterial infection?.
Fish seems to be up and getting about but the redness is getting bigger. Is it in very poor condition or treat asap?.

Answer
Hey,

I'm not even sure Sera Baktopur is avalible in the united states! I've never seen it on shelves, or in stores online from local places. In Germany, I know it's avalible, but I don't live in germany. If you don't live in a place it's ready on shelves, I wouldn't use it.

If you can, go get any anti-bacterial right away. Tomorrow, would be best. The sooner you start treatment, the better your chance of survival. Again, the jungle fizzy tabs will work, quick cure might help, and the aquarium salts will help kill bacteria and prevent re-infections. The sooner you get this stuff going, the faster you'll be cured! Waiting only increases the damage done, and the likelihood of fatality. Because popeye and eye cloud can perminantly blind fish, I strongly recommend going to a pet store tomorrow.

Best wishes, and good luck!
