Question
Hi Nathan
I own a 4 ft X 1.5 ft aquarium tank. I have decided to make it a cichlid tank. I already own a pair each of silver dollars, gouramis and ANGELFISH. I have bought a pair each of two different small cichlids I dont know the name of... Well the problem is that I dont know whether these fish are fit to live peacefully together, especially the angelfish. Please help. P.S.: I do not have any breeding plans for any of the fishes. I also own a single silver shark.

Answer
Hi Ashwin,

Could you send me a picture of the Cichlids you are planning to put in the tank? That way, I could give you a good picture of the water parameters and suitability. Next time you buy a fish, remember the name of it. If it's not there, ask the employee, and if they have no clue, it's best if you go to a different store, or buy another type of fish.

Pictures can be uploaded - simply post a follow-up question. There's a link that says 'Attach an Image'.

Generally, as long as your Cichlids are SOUTH AMERICAN Cichlids (there are many types here), they will go well with your Angels. If they are AFRICAN Cichlids, they will NOT be compatible.

I'd love to help you - if you could provide me with the pictures, that would be great. If for some reason you can't do that, just try and describe each cichlid. (Such as Black and white stripes, semi-long fins, generally peaceful, etc,) which would be a Convict Cichlid.

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
