QuestionI have a newly set up 29 gallon tank. I set it up a week ago and got a bala shark for the tank yesterday. His behavior is very strang right now. He is set vertically right next to the heater with his head facing down. I have the basic knowledge of how to set up aquariums and know about all the possible cycles and tested basically everything I know to test in the water from ph, to ammonia, nitrate, hardness, etc. and they all came back normal. The fish doesn't look that unhealty besides this strange behavior. I obivously wont add more fish to the tank until this is sorted out.
AnswerHi Matt: Your Bala Shark is stressed out. He just needs some time and maybe a few other fish in the tank with him. Travel from an aquarium to your home for fish is very stressful...they are basically penned up in a very small amount of water which makes them feel as though there is no possible escape if a bigger fish came alone. In the wild they have rivers and lakes, etc to swim in... so a small bag really stresses them out. I would not at this point hesitate to add more fish... not a great number but maybe five or six non-aggressive fish. He should come back to being normal very soon. Please keep me posted on his progress... dave
