Just Moved. Fish not looking too well

Question
Hi,

We just moved our 8 African Cichlids to a new house and it was some project.  I have 4 small and 4 large African Cichlids that I keep seperated because they are agressive against each other.  To move them, I filled up a cooler full of their old water and I had actually collected some of their water a few days prior to the move so I could fill up two ten gallon tanks that I already had running with filters, heater and air to keep them in while I set up our large tank.
They move went good and the fish have lived in the 2 10 gallon tanks for about 8 days.  In the meantime, I have been mixing in small quantities of new water and cycling out the old water into buckets and another tank.  I needed enough water to at least get the filters going in a 55 gallon tank and I was unable to move enough in buckets.  In the end I think I ended up with about 35 gallons of new and old mixed water in the 55 gallon tank.
I put the fish in the 55 gallon tank last night and added about 3 gallons of aged conditioned water into the tank this morning and now one of the large ones has what appears to be scales peeling off their gill area.  The fish also didn't eat tonight.  The fish was eating throughout the week they were all in the smaller tank.
Do you think there is not enough old water?  If so, what can I do to fix this problem.  Or could it be something else? I obviously can't place them back in smaller tanks.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Tom

Answer
Dear Tom,
There is a product called "Cycle" that will condition the water and make it very comfortable for moving your fish. Go to the fish store and get a bottle. Keep it in the refrigerator after you open it, as it is full of live biology. If the fish store does not have "Cycle," ask them for a bottle of "biology." They might have a smiliar product.
Another problem could be the water temperature. If that's the problem, the fish will adjust over time if they make it through the initial changes. Do not use any other chemicals. The Cycle should do it.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Nori
