Question
QUESTION: My house water is treated for hardness before it comes through our faucets.  First, may I fill a new tank with this water rather than regular tap water?  If so, do I ignore adding the "conditioner" that comes with the tank because the water is already soft? Thank you.

ANSWER: Hello,

Yes, you may add you softer water to your tank. You may want to double check what chemical is used to do this though, to make sure it is nothing very dangerous to fish.

You should still add conditioner to your water. Conditioner usually helps get rid of chlorine and chloramine, and help protect your fish's slime coat. All these things are very important. Condtioner probably won't affect the hardness of your water, unless it says specifically that it does that.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie

QUESTION: Thank you for your answer.  The water is treated with salt. Harmful?

Answer
Hello,

It might be. Unfortunately I do not know much about treated water, as the water in my area is naturally hard and left that way. If possible you should use reverse osmosis or distilled water in your aquarium.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
