Question
Hi there. Please help me. I have tried just about everything. My 20 gallon tank is about 6 months old, and have 4 fish in it. @ black tetras and 2 clear fish.  My tank is VERY clear but VERY yellow.I change the water about every 2 weeks. I check my levels  2-3 times a week, they are perfect,   I even brought water to my local aquarium store and they tested them and they were perfect too. My fish seem very happy,  I even add extra carbon to my filter, but nothing. It is still very yellow. No one seems to help me. they are baffled when I tell them my story.

Please Please help!!! I want a clear tank with NO color..

Answer
Hello,

Do you have any driftwood in your tank? Driftwood leeches tannins into the water. Tannins are not bad for your tank, but they do change its color to a yellowish color. If you do have driftwood, you should remove it and boil it for a while to remove all the tannins, then it should be safe to add back to your aquarium.

If it is not driftwood, you may want to check your other tank ornaments for signs of erosion.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Stephanie
