Question
My first tank they have ich and im treating that,my second tank is full of swordtails and mollies and i just got these fish off of someone and ive noticed that some of the mollies have developed small amount of ich 1 to 2 spots on tail (this is how my other tank got them because i put some of the same batch in there)and then there is one large swordtail that looks to me like mouth rot it has a small piece gone almost and its kind loose hanging there, so my question is can i treat the mouth rot and the ich at the same time i have already started to treat the ich with ich away by wardly and i have fungus clear tank buddies by jungle these are the only options i have i live in a very small town,so do you think i should treat them with both meds or one at a time and how far apart should they be and which one first and also does mouth rot spread and i have some of the swords in my bigger tank too should i also treat them for mouth rot with no visible signs yet anyway.  Please get back to me THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Answer
Hi Kris,
The best treatment schedule I've worked out for Ich in my fish patients is-

*Do daily 50% water changes (always make sure to add water conditioner to the new water and make sure the temp is equal to or a little warmer than your tank water.)
*Redose medication after each water change
*Keep the temp up to 82F
*Add aquarium salt (this is optional but it does help deter parasites)
(Only add back enough salt to however much water you are adding back to the tank when doing water changes)

Treatment for minimum 12-14 days to insure every last ich parasite is gone even if the spots disappear mid-treatment.

This goes against most medication directions but it does not harm the fish and seems to work out a lot better and more successful.

I usually use Quick cure medication but most ich medications work well.

Fungus clear is a really great medication. However, I do not feel comfortable advising you to combine the medications. When the directions do not say so and you're dealing with two different brands. It might be best not too.

So your fish also have mouth rot? I think you will have to take a chance here and continue with the ich medication, start salt if possible and do water changes frequently to help battle the common causes of mouth rot like poor water quality.

I wouldn't treat the swords in the bigger tank for now. Just make sure their environment is healthy to keep their immune system up and make sure they have plenty of healthy food with vitamins.

I hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
