Red dots on Betta fin

Question
Hi,
I noticed that my Betta has some red dots on his fins. They were not there before. I change his water every week, all of it, I clean the gravel too. I just rinse it off, no soap or cleaners. I add a little fish salt. I let it sit for a day as well. I am not sure why he has these dots. Are they the beginning of an infection like fin rot? He lives in a vase about .5 gallons, by himself, he is an average size male, his water chem levels are normal and I try to keep the temp around  73F.

Answer
Hi Catherine:  I would up his water temperature to about 78 degrees... do it slowly... one degree per hour.  It is hard to say if that is the beginning of an infection or not... It sounds like you take very good care of him... Try feeding him some live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp... they like those a lot. Keep your eye on him if it looks like those spots are getting bigger start him on an antifungal medication and let me know.... hope this helps... dave
