Question
I have one jaguar in a tank with 1 Pacu and 2 silver dollars. I came home today to find a large number of what look like rice size eggs all over one corner of the 30 gal tank? The jaguar is protecting them form the other 3 fish...how is this possible.. What should I do???

Answer
Hello Jason,
Female Jaguars can lay up to 500 eggs during spawning, but unless there is a male to fertilize the eggs, they will not hatch and will just decay. Your Jaguar has layed eggs.
One thing to be very careful about is that Jaguars become highly protective and aggressive when they lay eggs and will kill other fish, so the eggs must be taken out and discarded since you do not have a male to fertilize them.
If you ever do get a male and this happens again, the male and female should be alone with no other fish.
Hope this explains it!
