Question
I have a molly that we thought may have been pregnant but it seems she has been that way for a while now. right behind her gills she started growing and she looks like she is ready to burst and has been that way for about 5 weeks now. I am wondering could it possibly be something other than pregnancy such as a growth of some sort??

Answer
Hi Warren,

Five weeks is an awfully long time to be pregnant, but not uncommon.  Mollies can take longer to birth in cold water.  If the water isn't 80F, which they require, it can indeed make the gestation time longer.

Please try increasing heat and doing a partial water change.  My bet is the event will happen soon after.

Happy fish-keeping.
