missing scales

I've just got a new tank and some red comets and black moors to put in with my goldfish and now 1 goldfish and the two comets look like they're losing scales, theres a scale or three missing in random spaces over all of them?

Hi Emma,
Is your tank fully cycled? This may explain why your fish are losing their scales through ammonia burns. If your tank is fully cycled, test the water readings. Ammonia should be at 0 Nitrite should be at 0 and Nitrate should be under 25ppm. If your tank is not cycled do partial water changes daily of about 30% and test the water each day. It will take 6 weeks for your tank to cycle.
