Question
I bought a Black Ghost a few weeks ago, and it has been happy in my 55 gl tank. Its fish mates are, 2 Green Cats, 1 Alge Eater, 2 Rope Tail Eels (12in & 6in) 2 Siver Barbs (8in & 6in), 1 Dinosaure Eel(6in) and 1 Tire Track Eel 12in long and fat...My Question is, my Ghost is missing, I've looked everywhere in the tank, in and Under all the caves and the log...There are no Skeletons or dead bodies to be found...Is it possible that the Tire Track Eel ATE the Ghost?

Answer
It is very possible that one of the many eels in the tank made dinner out of the ghost. I am not sure this was the best combination, plus the tank is alittle small for so many larger fish. While eels are bendy and do not usually take up much room, a small 55 gallon is a bit too small for so many eels combined with other fish. The smaller the tank the more likely the fish are to become more aggressive, even if they are naturally peaceful. However, keep in mind the ghost fish is called a ghost for a good reason, it easily hides itself. Yes, you may have picked up stuff and not seen it but I do think it is also likely it is still hiding from you. So, it could be in one of the eel's stomaches or it could be hiding. Either option is very likely. If one of the eels ate the ghost sadly you will never know. If the ghost is hiding, one day it will reveal itself. Either way there is not much to do. I have a few smaller algae eaters in a large tank with driftwood, I never see them but maybe once a month because they are very shy fish but they love to hide themselves. I do think it is likely that one of the eels ate the ghost but it is also likely to say it may still be hiding in the tank. Also, if one of the eels ate the ghost it is not likely that you would see a skeleton as it often breaks down very quickly and takes on the look or natural dirt or residue. Hopefully the ghost is just playing hide and seek with you, if not the one of the eels are very happy with their home. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
