hello,i just got a boesmani rainbow.i have a ten gallon everything is normal chemical wise.i have 6 fish.2 guppies 2 Mickey mouse platys 1 boesmani rainbow ( New Fish) and a albino cory.mickey mouse platys are both 1.5 in long same with other fish.my boesmani rainbow is 2 in long. 77-78 degrees Fahrenheit .i am due for a water change and gravel today.ok my boesmani rainbow fish is 2 days old in my tank. when i feed them he tries to eat but the fish up top hog it all.when he goes to the top for food he rushes up and down reel quick. when he gets the flakes he eats it and then spits it out what is the problem!!!! i don't no how to get food to him and what types of food are good. i feed them tetra color flakes and tetra granules.how do i get food to him? what food should i use. PLEASE HELP i don't want him to die!!!!! would a hatchet fish, tiger barb, spotted pictus catfish or painted glassfish be good for my tank as my next fish . if you could give me suggestions on good fish tell me,could i add 3 neon tetras?  if there is anything special about the boesmani rainbow  or the fish i want please TELL me!!! thanks for your help!!

Hi Austin:  Congratulations on the rainbow... they are nice fish.  They do not have any specific diet so trust me when I say he will eat when he is ready too... you could try some slow sinking pellets and see if that helps... the cory cat would appriciate those as well.  I try to always recommend a varied diet that includes some live food such as brine shrimp and or tubiflex worms.  

New fish:  I would not put barbs in with guppies or platy's as they will soon become lunch.  The rest of the fish on your list would be good tank mates.  Of note: the painted glass fish are usually hormonally treated to produce that color and sometimes surgically treated as well... what that means for you is that the color will fade eventually.
