Question
QUESTION: Hi Karen
I have more of a curiosity than a question.
I have kept tropical fish for years. But never guppies.
I had a guppy deliver approximately 25 fry, One was kinda attatched to another underdeveloped sibling(looks like they were stuck together while developing)
Just wondering if this could have been just what I described(Siamese twins)only one tiny & not viable.
or could it be just an abnormality from inbreeding, Both females and males were bought from local lfs, Could be related, weird thing is, all the other siblings are perfectly normal...
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Michelle

ANSWER: Hi Michelle,
Sounds like a freak accident to me. Or maybe inbreeding. More likely a rare deformity. The fish might grow up and behave normally except for his abnormal appearance or he may be stunted or die early. Hard to know.

Quite an observation though!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hi Karen ..Thanks for that,,
The siamese twin in question has disappeared, Think it died or has been consumeed by healthier siblings.
My follow up question is,,
I have a green & yellow Snakeskin male who is suspected of being the father of same fry batch as the siamese twin, I notice that these babies are smaller than the others I have bred, All the others have been of an orangy colouration, But the new ones have a dark motled appearance. Even the ones born the day before these dark one are orangy and much bigger. Both my females are orangy coloured
Is this normal? I wonder if maybe the darker ones are all freaks or just Snakeskins lol

Answer
Hey Michelle,
Well, its very difficult to know the answer to this situation. Since you can get quite some bizarre coloration from guppy fry broods due to the unknown genetics of the parents and 'grandparents' of the parents there's no telling what your darker babies will turn out to be.

Its always fun to watch little guppy fry grow up and develop their amazing colors!

I hope everything goes well!!
Karen~
