What about Blood parrot cichlid and blue ahli cichlids

Question
QUESTION: will they get along?

ANSWER: My general rule of thumb with all cichlids is that if you consider the adult cichlid size and temperament and you take into consideration the size of the tank and food requirements so that both types of cichlids are satisfied then you can do a lot of things with cichlids that normally should not be done.  This rule does not apply to the more aggressive cichlids such as the red devil which in my opinion should be a solitary fish.  Blood parrots can reach 12 inches or more and are crossed with a red devil and gold sererum.  Some blood parrots are very docile while others are holy terrors... or more accurately ... red devils.  If you buy cichlids when they are small you may be successful with mixing the two.  Because each cichlid is different in temperament I can not tell you for certain that you can mix the two... If it were me... I would buy small parrots and small ahi and try it... If it looks like they are going to be friendly then keep them... if not... take them back to the store.  If you are looking for mild mannered cichlids then I would try the following:

Gold Severum
Green Severum
chocolate cichlids
Urau cichlids
Proximus geophagus
Jurapari geophagus
Key hole cichlid
Blood Parrot (sometimes)

Hope this helps... dave

QUESTION: ok thank you for that info I decided to go ahead and try the tiger oscar with the parrot, but my question is with the oscar should there be a lot of current, little current or next to no current in the tank? my tank used to be for clown loaches and they require a lot of current I have minimized it some...but I can pull the power head to minimize it more if need be.

Answer
The Oscar likes moving water that is not too fast.  They typically dig a whole some place and stay there.  They are predators to be certain so they sit and wait for something to swim by. If they are hungry they will go and look for food. So a little current is perfect for them... you want to judge the amount of current by their size so that they do not get so tired fighting the current that they get sucked in to the filter.  So start it out with the lowest setting possible.   dave
