lighting for 25 gal?

23 16:57:51

Question
I got the tank on a "blow out" sale.
The fish store nearby me just got new owners.

SO that light came with the tank, new.
So how will it affect my plants since it is for salt water?
thanks!

I have a tank that I think is 25 gal. (it is a half circle so kinda hard to eye the size).
Will this light:

be bright enough to do a planted tank?
thanks

Renee:

Thanks for your question, I'll try to help.

That bulb is a power compact so I assume you have a power compact fixture over your tank. I don't think you need the actinic light for plants. I'd go for a simple PC 5500 or 6500 K bulb and save some money. That is all you should need.

A 50/50 bulb is usually used in a marine reef tank and is not needed in a freshwater plant tank.

I assumed you were going to buy that lamp, as long as you have it already just go ahead and use it, it will do no harm and should do a good job.

When it's time to replace the lamp just get a simple 5500 or 6500k lamp and save some money.
