driftwood

Question
I recently found a piece of driftwood at a local lake. I have a 55 gallon tank, and mostly guppies in it. I was wondering if it is safe to put the driftwood in my tank.

Answer
Hi Linda,
Yes, its safe in most cases. I've done this plenty of times.

Just try to soak the driftwood in a fish-safe container of water to help loose material, dirt and some tannins leech out before putting it in your tank. Of course it will float, you can either keep soaking the driftwood until it becomes water logged, or take a piece of slate or a rock and silicone it with aquarium silicone to the driftwood to force it to sink that way.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!
